Beginning in August, the Office of Innovation Advancement and Commercialization, or IAC, adopted a new name: The Intellectual Property Exchange, also known as “The IP Exchange” and “IPX.” The new name is reflective of internal reorganization and an ongoing commitment to translating innovative Auburn ideas into meaningful impacts throughout the state, region and nation.

How the love of a dog led to the founding of a business

Angela Steele combined her two favorite things when founding her new business. We’ve all heard that “Dogs are a man’s best friend.” In the case of Angela Steele, her dog was her new business’ best friend! When asked where she got the idea of starting her business, she pulled out a picture, pointed at it, and said “This was my inspiration.” In the picture was her dog, Fassoh.

Entrepreneurial Resources Working Together

Last week, stakeholders in the entrepreneurial support community gathered to discuss ways to enrich and grow the ecosystem. “The goal of this meeting was to bring together organizations that offer some type of service to our business owners or aspiring business owners in Lee County. The primary topic was the state of entrepreneurship resources in the area,” said Ayshia Green-Calloway.

City partners with nonprofit lender to provide funding opportunities for startups

A new funding source is now available for startups, minority-owned, underserved and other local businesses looking to start and grow in the Auburn area. The Industrial Development Board of the City of Auburn, with the support and concurrence of the Auburn City Council, has worked to recruit Sabre Finance to locate a branch of its operation in Auburn, bringing a new funding option to the local business community.

Lowder Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business invites students to participate in Startup Weekend

The Lowder Center for Entrepreneurship and Family business is inviting students to participate in Auburn’s first Startup Weekend on Friday, April 1 - Sunday, April 3, in Horton Hardgrave Hall. During Startup Weekend, students form teams around business ideas, work throughout the weekend to validate the idea, develop a working prototype/demo and present to a panel of judges.
