We Parlay, a Tuskegee-based start-up with ties to Auburn University, recently hosted an event at the New Venture Accelerator located in Auburn's Research Park to recognize and help drive the success of local area Black-owned businesses.
Nineteen student-led teams pitched their business ideas before industry professional judges on Friday January 28 at the New Venture Accelerator. Eight teams were selected to advance to the February 25 Tiger Cage semifinals round.
The New Venture Accelerator welcomed a team from 18:56, the Auburn Alumni Association's online speaker series. Their live broadcast included a "walk and talk" through the accelerator which gave them a chance to feature some of our startup companies.
Starting a business while pursuing an academic degree is a daunting task but is becoming increasingly popular here at Auburn University. Students with the goal of meeting a marketplace need by developing an innovative product or service are increasingly choosing Auburn because of the entrepreneurship education and programming it provides.
Aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners are invited to upcoming workshops hosted by the City of Auburn in partnership with Auburn University Outreach’s Government and Economic Development Institute (GEDI) and the Auburn University Harbert College of Business. There are two free workshops to choose from: a single, half-day option; and a five-week, one hour each Monday Zoom series.
